Whole School Activities

We celebrated the opening of the refurbished School Library on 17th May. As I explained to the children it would have been lovely to invite all the children and parents to join us but we really couldn’t fit everyone in. However, we had one child from each class to represent the school, members of the Governing Body, the PTFA and the teaching staff to represent our School Community. Our first Guest of Honour was the author Matt Oldfield, who also led the whole school in an assembly, which was very enjoyable. Then our second Guest of Honour, Carole Farrer from the Local Authority, cut the ribbon and led us all into the Library. After a couple of speeches, we invited Miss Simmons to cut the cake.

In the run up to World Book Day, children from Great Bradfords Junior School put their design and technology skills to great use, by designing and producing their own fantastic pop-up books.

By learning how to make box folds, mouth folds, sliders, concertina springs and lift the flaps, they created some truly unique books. Each year group made books relating to what they have been learning about in their topic lessons:

Year 3 – Braintree

Year 4 – The Mayans

Year 5 – Space

Year 6 – Native America

During the afternoon of World Book Day, our hall was transformed into a library, showcasing the childrens finished books. Each year group took turns to enjoy looking at and reading them. Favourite books from the different year groups were voted for by each child and we are pleased to announce the winners:

Year 3 – Maisie and Jacob, 3W

Year 4 – 4H (in year 4 every child made one page for a class book)

Year 5 – Roksana, Daisy, Harry and Jamie, 5B

Year 6 – Chloe, 6S.

We are sure you’ll all agree, they look fantastic!

Wearing spots, onesies and pyjamas for the day we raised an amazing £380!.
Two of our children attended the service at the War Memorial on 11th November and laid a wreath on behalf of the school.
