Governance
The Full Governing Body (Chaired by Karen Ogan) is responsible for ensuring:
- That the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined;
- That the Headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school; and
- The sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources.
As a school, we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect information on diversity from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:
- Target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity;
- Develop and adapt board practices to ensure full participation;
- Prioritise training in identified areas;
- Address potential ‘blind spots’ through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risks.
However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our governing body are identifiable.
The Full Governing Body meets four times each year.
The Governing Body has established two main committees to give focus to areas of responsibility as follows:
Finance, Resources and Personnel Committee(Chaired by Andy Hobster)
This Committee meets four times each year and principally has responsibility for: reviewing and monitoring finance and resource-related policies and procedures; approving the annual Budget Plan and premises-related matters, reviewing and monitoring personnel-related policies and procedures (including performance management); supporting and guiding the Governing Body in prioritising staffing developments for inclusion in the budget; and, in consultation with the Headteacher, make recommendations to the Governing Body on staffing needs to meet the requirements of the curriculum and pupils.
Members of the Governing Body carry out monitoring visits to the school at regular intervals to provide support and challenge to the Headteacher and other leaders. The focus for each visit is closely aligned to the individual governor's linked responsibility and priority improvement areas for the school. For example, Special Educational Needs, curriculum provision, safeguarding and financial management.
Other Committees are established for specific purposes and meet as and when required as follows:
Headteacher Performance Review Committee; Pay Committee; Pay Appeals Committee; Staff Dismissal Committee; Staff Dismissal Appeal; Pupil Discipline Committee; Complaints Review Panel.
